Green Smoothie Goodness…because are there really ever too many green smoothie recipes?

The answer to that question? No. No there are not! I am a smoothie junkie for sure. They are so easy to make, good for on the go, plus if you make them correctly, they are packed with nutrients. I am a huge fan of green smoothies. I’m always experimenting with my green smoothie recipes so that I don’t get bored drinking them. Sometimes I win and sometimes I lose (I rarely dump one out but some of them are ROUGH to get down). This time, I won…so I figured I should share!

Typically I put some type of protein powder in my smoothies. The morning that I made this smoothie though, I had time to make 2 eggs before I ran out the door to work so I didn’t feel the need to add any to my smoothie. I’m sure it would still be delicious if you added your favorite protein though (:

Here is what you’ll find in this little guy:

  • 1 cup of coconut water (I used Zico brand, the natural flavor)
  • 2 heaping handfuls of baby spinach leaves
  • 1 small handful of blueberries
  • 5 frozen strawberries
  • 1 sliced, frozen organic banana
  • 1/2 cup of fresh pineapple
  • 1/4 cup fresh papaya

I tossed all of this into my Ninja and mixed it up. If I could change one thing, I would add half of an avocado to help smooth out the texture a bit! My grandma had a good idea…we’ve been mixing our frozen bananas with 1/2 of a frozen avocado in the same plastic baggy so that we can just grab one bag out of the freezer that makes the smoothie have the smoothest texture. It makes such a difference.

Did you know that spinach is really good in aiding digestion AND that the best way to consume it in order to reap the most health benefits is in juice form (a smoothie counts!)? Plus the vitamins and minerals in spinach are amazing for your skin. Just more reasons to love green smoothies! (source)

Give this smoothie a try and let me know what you think! It’s really sweet so I didn’t need to add any agave, stevia or honey (:

See you guys tomorrow for Talk It Out Tuesday!

I love Green Smoothies! I can’t wait to give this one a try! I am headed to the grocery store this morning and coconut water has made my list! Thanks for sharing this!

  • LOVE smoothies!!! Awesome idea to freeze your avocados with the bananas – I’ve never thought of even freezing avo’s – have any tips for me? Do you peel them frist, then cut them in half to freeze? Thanks for sharing!

Frozen avocado is a game changer for me since I don’t have a fancy blender that makes my smoothies really smooth! We peel ours and cut them in half and then half again. I put 1/2 of the avocado in a bag with a cut up banana and let them freeze…so good 🙂
