What Should I Be Eating Before and After I Workout?Posted on March 4, 2014 at 10:44 pm
So you’ve got the working out down, but now you want to know how you should be fueling your body pre and post workout? I gotcha covered! We all know how I feel about food…it’s fuel for your body. That’s the first thing to keep in mind. We want to make sure we’re eating the right foods at the right time so that we get the most out of our workouts. Nutrition & fitness go hand in hand…surprise!
Now keep in mind, I’m not a dietitian or nutritionist. These are just guidelines that I’ve been following myself that work for me (:
Before a workout, I like to eat good carbs about 1-2 hours beforehand. This gives me energy to KILL my workouts! Good carbs are your body’s main source of energy. I’ve tried to do HIIT style workouts right when I wake up…before eating anything. BAD idea. I had no energy and my body was fatiguing WAY faster than normal. I even got light headed and had to pause my workout…not cool. So now I always make sure to load up on good carbs pre-workout!
After a workout, it’s important to eat protein! Lean protein is best, of course. Protein is what your body needs to aid in muscle recovery. When you work out, you’re essentially tearing your muscles…they need something to help them recover (and grow) post-workout. I make sure to eat protein within about an hour of working out. The sooner you get your protein in post-workout, the better!
Now let’s review:
Hope this helps!
