The Dirt on Eating Clean…What It Really Means

Have you ever seen #eatcleantraindirty and wondered what the heck that person was talking about? Today I’m gonna explain the “Eat Clean” part, because I’ve had a lot of questions about what I eat/what kind of diet I follow.

Truth is…I don’t do any special diet. I’m not a vegetarian. Or vegan. I don’t eat paleo. I’m not about “low fat” or no carbs (which you know how I feel about carbs). I don’t eat exclusively gluten-free. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with any of these…I am saying that you have to find what works for you. Every person’s body is different. So obviously everyone is going to react differently to certain foods. I’m okay with including a little bit of gluten, meat, and dairy in my diet.  I’m all about the “eating clean” hype. Let me explain.

The Dirt on Eating Clean
To me, eating clean is eating whole, real, natural foods that act as FUEL for your body. Have you ever thought about food like that? Essentially, FOOD is FUEL for your body.

So what is clean food?

Easy. Clean foods are foods that are not manmade/artificially produced. They are whole, real, natural foods. Foods that come from the Earth. Veggies, fruits, grains, meats. Just think about like this…if it was made in a factory somewhere, probably not clean. If it was grown or raised on the Earth, probably clean. You want to be eating more foods with less ingredients. We want to eat food as it was produced, without men tampering with it.

Tips for Eating Clean:

  • Cut out processed food. This includes white stuff…sugar, flour, rice…if it’s white and not a veggie, it’s probably not clean.
  • Eat food in its natural state. Or as close to it as you can.
  • LOTS of veggies, fruits, whole grains and meat (that is not prepackaged…get it from a butcher).
  • Limit your alcohol intake. Ideally you would’t drink any at all. BUT ya girl likes to enjoy a glass of wine every now and then…
  • Include healthy fats in your diet. Things like avocados, certain oils (like olive, coconut, sunflower, peanut, canola), seeds/nuts & nut butter.

You guys…I have something to tell you. 70-80% of your results are due to what you eat. Yep. Ever heard that saying “you are what you eat?” They weren’t kidding. I’ve also heard that “you can’t out-train a bad diet.” PREACH.

Now do I eat 100% clean ALL the time? NO, of course not. I strive to eat clean 80% of the time, while enjoying myself 20% of the time. Even during that 20% I don’t go crazy and eat cupcakes and french fries all day long, But that’s because I don’t enjoy those things. I use my 20% to have some wine, chips & salsa, and dark chocolate. Moderation is key people. And you HAVE to find out what works best for you and your body!

Eating clean works for me because it keeps me full, feeling energized, and hello…it helps my hair, skin, and nails…WINNING.

  • These are great clean eating tips! Sounds like we’re living the same lifestyle – by the 80/20 rule! I totally agree with you – that glass of wine every once in a while is a go lol but not all day every day! Great post!
