We hear it all the time. From doctors, from trainers, from nutritionists: DRINK MORE WATER. Most people just stare blankly thinking about how they would kill for a Diet Coke or sweet tea at that very second. Well today I’m here to tell you WHY you should be drinking more water. I think that once you see what all H2O does for you, you might be a little bit more inclined to give it a chance.
Reason #1: Promotes weight loss
Okay…here’s a little secret. Did you know that sometimes when you think you’re hungry that you’re not really hungry? You’re dehydrated! By drinking water, you will reduce that hunger. I also think it’s smart to drink a glass of water before each meal, because it will fill up your stomach and you’ll be less likely to overeat. Bonus: if you’re drinking enough water your body won’t retain as much water.
Reason #2: Beautiful skin
Almost all of us have dealt with some type of skin issue (if you haven’t, count your blessings!). We always rush out to drug/beauty stores trying to find the best remedy to fix the acne. Well good old H2O is here to save the day. Drinking enough water will show in your skin. It keeps it moisturized & glowing. Water is one of the best anti-aging treatments around.
Reason #3: Hello, energy
With how busy our schedules are, it’s easy to lose energy and let fatigue set in fast. Drinking enough water will boost those energy levels.
Reason #4: Goodbye, joint pain
If you experience pain in your joints, maybe you aren’t drinking enough water. Drinking enough water keeps our joints lubricated and our muscles elastic, decreasing pain.
Reason #5: Gets rid of toxins
Your body gets rid of toxins through sweat and pee. Water keeps things moving along.
Reason #6: Immune booster
Staying hydrated fights against sickness.
Reason #7: Improved mood
If you’re dehydrated, it can lead to crankiness. Drinking enough water will keep you hydrated and happy!
Reason #8: Headaches, be gone
If you frequently get headaches, drink more water! A lot of the time headaches are caused by dehydration.
Reason #9: Perform better during training
Our muscles are made up of mostly water. By making sure that we’re hydrated, we’ll be able to perform better during workouts. If you aren’t hydrated during a workout you risk becoming weak, tired & dizzy.
Reason #10: Well…your body needs it to function
Water acts as the body’s transportation system. It helps nutrients travel throughout the body, and when we’re dehydrated, things don’t flow as nicely.
Shoot for drinking at least 8 cups of water per day. I personally drink between 75-90 ounces every day!
And even though now we all know how good water is for us, I know it can get boring for some people to drink just plain water. So next week I’ll have a post about ways to spice up your water and tips for drinking more water (:
