What Exactly Is “Lifting Heavy” Anyway?Posted on April 1, 2016 at 12:18 am
Happy Friday (: I haven’t done a regular old blog post here in awhile (I have been blogging on my personal blog and uploading videos on my YouTube channel, though) so I figured I would surprise y’all with one today!
Do you ever hear people say that you should be “lifting heavy?” Do you ever wonder…okay so what is heavy? Well like just about every other aspect of the health/fitness industry…it depends. What is heavy for me might not be heavy for you and vice versa.
So how do you tell what your heavy is?
Here’s how I gauge it: if you can bust out 10-12 reps with NO problem, then it’s not heavy enough. If you can get through 7 reps and then by rep 8 you’re struggling and you literally have to CRANK OUT the last 2-3 reps then you are lifting heavy. For the majority of my lifts, I strive to make sure that the last 2-3 reps are really challenging. Another tip: DON’T compare your heavy to someone else’s heavy. We are all in different stages of our fitness journey.
I hope this helps (:
