Make SMART Goals and Start Now!Posted on December 18, 2013 at 10:17 pm
Hi my sweet Glisteners! I hope that y’all are making time for yourselves…I know that this time of year it is very easy for people to get lost in the shuffle of their never-ending to-do lists. The holidays are a very busy time, but I want to encourage you to make sure to set aside some special time to really slow down and take in Christmas & New Years before it’s too late and they’ve already come and gone.
I think it’s really important not to let yourself “check out” at the end of the year. Why wait until New Years to make resolutions when you can start now? Just think, if you set SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, timely) goals now and begin working toward them, you’ll already be well on your way come 2014. Now that sounds like a successful New Year if you ask me!
An example of a SMART goal vs. a non-SMART goal:
Non-SMART goal: Workout more.
SMART goal: I will wake up 30 minutes early each weekday morning to go jogging around my neighborhood.
The difference? I believe that SMART goals really hold us accountable. They are very specific and there’s no wiggle room for making excuses. The goal states exactly what it is…you either choose to do it or you don’t. SMART goals really help set you up for success! I’ve always been a big believer in the saying, “If you fail to plan you plan to fail.” I try my hardest to plan everything that I can to reach my own goals. I set my workout clothes and shoes out the night before if I know that I have to get my workout in early the next morning. I make plans to take group fitness classes with my girlfriends so that they can hold me accountable to going to class. I challenge you to write out a SMART goal for 2014 and to start working on it NOW!
Another quote that I like (I’m a quote person if you can’t tell) that I heard from Lara Casey, “You know all those things you’ve always wanted to do? You should go do them.” A-freaking-men.
I know it’s been kinda quiet here on the Glisten blog, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not working on stuff for y’all! At the beginning of the year, I’m planning on posting regularly (2-3 times per week). I even have cute little topic names…are you ready?!
Mmm Monday, for recipe posts
Talk It Out Tuesday, for health and fitness discussions, tips, and Q & As
Fit Fridays, for workouts
So fun right?! I’ve also been putting together local boot camps that are going to kick off sometime between mid-January to early February…I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am! If you live in the Tampa area (and you’re a female, of course) and you’re interested in attending a boot camp class, keep your eyes open for information. You don’t have to have a gym membership or anything. I’m working with my web designer to get a boot camp information page and sign up page up on the Glisten site.
Merry Christmas, y’all…enjoy these next few days! I know I’m gonna soak up as much time with my loved ones as I can!
