Why Working Out With Friends is Better Than Working Out AlonePosted on August 13, 2014 at 12:01 am
Housekeeping first: In the past I’ve been posting on Monday, Tuesday & Friday. Which really makes no sense…so now I’ll be posting Monday, Wednesday & Friday!
Moving on to today’s topic: Why working out with friends is better than working out alone. Now I know some of you will disagree with me and that is totally fine. But I’ve been in both atmospheres quite a bit (working out alone and with friends) and I really think there are a ton of benefits to working out with other people.
You’re less likely to skip a workout if you promised your bestie that you would workout with her, am I right? If you’re working out alone and you feel like sitting on the couch and binging on Netflix, no one is going to be there to tell you to get your butt off the couch. Working out with friends holds us accountable.
2. Fun factor.
If you’re working out with friends you can laugh at how crazy the workout you just did was. You can talk about where you want to improve and what you crushed. Plus, hello, you get to do fun post-workout photo shoots that aren’t selfies since you’re not a loner.
3. Competitive edge.
When you’re working out by yourself, it’s easy to slack off a little bit if the workout is hard or you’re exhausted. BUT if you’re working out with friends, you’re going to push yourself to your limits every time, because you don’t want to be lagging behind; you want to be able to keep up with the group. I think a little competitive edge is healthy – it keeps us in check and working hard!
4. Safety reasons.
I was working out with a friend once and busted doing a box jump. I was on the floor in agony and she brought me a bag of cold lettuce (we didn’t have ice, ha!) to put on my shins. Who would’ve brought me cold lettuce if I was working out alone? No one! I would’ve been rolling around on the floor in agony all alone.
There’s just something about working out that brings people together. Post-workout everyone is chatty and excited about what they just accomplished. The endorphins are high and everyone feels like a team. Nothing beats it.
I workout alone most days of the week, because I workout on my lunch break, while all my friends are at work. But on Wednesday nights I workout with the ladies you see in these pictures and let me tell you…I look forward to Wednesday workouts the most! These ladies challenge me, encourage me and make the workouts fun. So if you currently don’t have a workout buddy, try getting one and see how it effects your workouts!
P.S. If you follow me on Instagram, I post the workout that we do every Wednesday night (:
