My Go To Post- Workout MealPosted on October 15, 2014 at 12:01 am
So I’ve talked about how important it is to have protein after a workout. A protein shake usually keeps me full for an hour if I’m lucky, so I always eat a meal within an hour or two of drinking my protein. I like to keep my post-workout meals very simple.
A lean protein (to help muscles repair & grow): shredded chicken. I think chicken tastes better shredded…I know, weird.
A healthy carb (since most of my workouts are high intensity it’s a good time for my body to use carbs): 1/2 sweet potato.
A green veggie (because I try to eat a ton of green veggies every day): asparagus. The amount of asparagus I eat every week is ridiculous.
I try to steer clear of fats right after my workout, because they tend to slow down the body’s absorption of protein and carbs. I eat fats pre-workout to give me energy to get though the workout, though.
Now obviously, depending on your goals/the type of workouts you do, your post-workout fuel needs are going to vary.
Whatever you do…make sure that you’re fueling your body properly before and after your workouts (:
