Struggling to Create Balance?

I want to start off by saying you don’t FIND balance…you CREATE balance.

It’s your job to decide what is important to you and then make a plan of action on how you’re going to get all of those things done. It takes some trial and error but I assure you that it can be done!

Creating balance can be TOUGH. I’m right there with you! I’m currently learning how to juggle 2 jobs, 4 classes + 2 labs, being a wife, a dog mom, a daughter, a granddaughter, a friend….and the list goes on. We all have 24 hours in a day. No matter how crazy your schedule is, you have to make time for yourself. That has been the key to me staying sane while I balance everything.

Tips for Creating Balance

How have I been doing that amidst all of the clients, homework assignments, exams, family dinners, etc? SCHEDULE IT IN. Yes – sounds weird, but I really do schedule in time for myself every day. Some days it’s 5 minutes while others it’s an entire afternoon.

That picture of me eating pizza up there was a scheduled date night in on a Wednesday night. My husband and I have very busy schedules (he works full-time during the day and goes to school 2 nights a week) so even though we see each other every night before bed, we don’t really get that QUALITY time unless we schedule it in. And we know that, so we make it a priority to schedule dinners, movie nights, etc.

Another thing that I do for some “me time” this time of year is bake healthy treats. I love ALL things pumpkin (so typical, I know) and I’ve been testing out some new pumpkin recipes the last few weeks. This also helps with keeping my fridge stocked with quick, grab and go treats…win/win!

No matter how busy my day was I make sure to get my workout IN. No excuses here. I know that I feel so much better after a good sweat sesh. Lately I haven’t been getting my workouts done until after 9PM…it’s a struggle to get started some nights, but I never regret it once I’m finished. Like I said before – if you want something you’ve got to make it happen.

And my final tip – a little bit of R&R goes a LONG way. I have always loved reading. Getting lost in the pages of a book is soothing to me – it clears my mind and calms me down. So every week (usually 2-3 times a week), I’ll set aside an hour to just sit in my favorite spot (our living room) and just allow myself to get lost in the pages of a book. Relaxing is essential to keeping yourself from going crazy when you’re trying to balance ALL THE THINGS. A little bit of time to clear your mind goes a long way – trust me (thanks for teaching me that, husband!).

You CAN create balance. Just remember to make a game plan. If you’re feeling overwhelmed step back and reevaluate. Creating balance is an ongoing learning process – we’re in this together!

I have been reminded lately of how relaxing and enjoyable reading is for me. I’m also making time for myself to recharge in this way. Would you consider a blog post sharing some of your favorite books? I always enjoy seeing what others are into. Thanks!
