Pursue Your PassionPosted on September 29, 2014 at 12:01 am
Happy Monday, y’all (: I hope you had a fabulous weekend! I spent most of it working but I did squeeze in some time to watch How I Met Your Mother on Netflix…I can’t believe I’m on the last season! Oh and Friday night I got to see Luke Bryan (for the 6th time…oh hey #fangirl). It rained pretty much the whole time but we still had a blast!
Today I want to talk about one of my favorite things: PASSION. When I was in college, I struggled trying to figure out a major/deciding what I wanted to do as a living once school was over. I knew that whatever I did I wanted to love it. I didn’t want to settle for something that just “paid the bills.” I get that sometimes you have to do that, but I wasn’t married and didn’t have kids so I was able to do a little self-discovering.
My friends and family knew that I was passionate about health and fitness, but to me, it was only a hobby…never something that I could make a career out of. I knew I didn’t want to work in a big box gym and I assumed that was pretty much the only option if I went into health and fitness.
I continued through school still not knowing what I was doing. I really look up to my Granddad as a businessman. He started at the bottom of the A/C industry many years ago and now he owns a commercial A/C business in Tampa. He worked hard to provide for his family, while climbing to the top of a profession that he actually cared about. All throughout school (and for a few years after) he told me, “Find something that you love doing. Get good at it. Then learn how to make money doing it.”
I can honestly say that is the best career advice I ever received through college. I took it to heart. I became determined to make a living in the health and fitness industry. But not in the way that most people do it. I wanted to start my own business. Do it my way. Reach as many people as I possibly could, inspiring them and guiding them through living a healthier lifestyle.
I’m nowhere near where I want to be with Glisten. I still have so much that I want to do. So many more people that I want to impact. BUT I love waking up every single day and taking steps toward making my dreams come true. I love what I do. And to me, that is so important…you spend a lot of time working. Choose something that you love!
Even if you have to work 2 (or 3!) jobs for awhile, don’t give up! Hard work pays off. Dedication makes things happen.
I get lots of emails asking me if I’m happy with my decision to go into the fitness industry. If I love what I do. If I would suggest going after your dreams even if you don’t make a lot of money at first. YES.
Find something you love doing.
Get good at it.
Figure out how to make money doing it.
Go after your dreams!
