My 2015 Word

Posted on January 5, 2015 at 12:36 am by

2015 is in full swing (and my 25th birthday is getting closer and closer…ah) so I figured it was time that I share my yearly word with y’all! Every year I choose a word to set the tone for the year. Last year I chose “do” and it was a success. I planned less and did more. I launched an online gym, started an e-book, and built my brand (oh and I got married!).

This year’s word is: FOCUS.

2015FOCUS

I find myself dreaming big A LOT. Which is awesome. But it’s also a bit overwhelming sometimes. I think of idea after idea that I want to make happen and I feel excited and frazzled at the same time. Then I look back at finished ideas and wish that I would’ve spent more time focusing in on a few ideas rather than scatter-branningly (may or may not have just made that word up, ha!) completing lots of ideas.

So in 2015 I am going to FOCUS. I plan on doing this by:

1. Using my time wisely.

Like I said before…I usually have a lot going on. So I tend to bounce from project to project throughout the day, not really honing in on putting a lot of effort into any one thing. At the end of the day I look back and feel like I didn’t get much accomplished when actually I did…it was just a bunch of half work on lots of things. This year I’m going to focus on setting myself a schedule every morning. Each task will have a time block dedicated to it, and during that time I will focus on that task only.

2. Being present.

I feel like all of these things kind of go together. Which I guess is good! When I’m working haphazardly on 15 tasks at once I also find it easier to get distracted. I catch myself scrolling through insta or checking my email randomly. Then by the time I’m done creeping on social media I have to refocus myself on what I was working on before I got distracted. I’m going to be present in my work this year. I am capable of great things and I feel like being present during my work will produce my best work.

3. Taking time off.

I’m really bad at this. I LOVE what I do, so I kind of want to do it all the time. But that can lead to getting burnt out which I definitely don’t want to happen. My goal is to really FOCUS on my work Monday-Friday and be able to take off Saturday and Sunday to spend time with my husband and my friends. Then when Monday rolls around I’ll be refreshed and ready to jump back in head on.

I’m not one to say I’m just going to do something. I have to tack a plan of action onto it. So now that y’all know my plans of action for making 2015 a year of FOCUS, you can hold me accountable!

What is your 2015 word? How are you gonna make it happen?

This post is so inspiring for me! As I near the end of my undergrad career and face exciting things to come, I’ve found my focus to be less and less. Staying present in each activity sounds like a great idea and very helpful. How exactly do you plan on going about this? Do you think you’ll plan out your day hour by hour? Have you been sticking with it so far? Thanks!

Congrats on nearing the end of your undergrad career – such an exciting time 🙂
I plan out my day in chunks (hour by hour seems a bit too excessive for me, lol). Like I’ll choose 3 tasks that I want to have done before noon. Then I’ll take a break and have a 30 minute lunch and workout. Then I’ll choose 3-4 tasks to have done by 6pm. Chunking my day/prioritizing my tasks has really helped! Good luck!
