Just Keep Swimming…

We’ve all seen the movie Finding Nemo, right? So we’ve all heard the line, “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.” Please tell me I’m not the only one who pep talks myself with this phrase when things seem like they’re impossible? haha!

Keep Going

Sometimes things don’t go as we planned. Goals take longer to reach. They require more effort. Or maybe we even have to call in some reinforcement that we didn’t anticipate. Either way…just keep swimming aka don’t quit.

I love the quote that you see up there. “Be stubborn about your goals and flexible about your methods.” It’s so true, especially in the health & fitness world. We all have goals that we want to reach within our health & fitness journey. Whether your goal is to lose weight to be healthy, to become stronger, or hey let’s be honest….to look fabulous in your bikini this summer, you’ve got to push yourself to get there.

What we try the first time isn’t always going to get us where we want to be. There is a lot of trial and error in health & fitness. You have to figure out what kind of foods work best with your body. What types of exercises/style of workouts you benefit from the most.

When I first started working out, I LIVED on the elliptical. I was on that thing for an hour a day 5-6 days a week (oh my gosh I do not miss being a cardio queen). I started dropping weight, but after a few years I wanted more…I wasn’t seeing the muscle definition that I wanted to see. Plus I started working full time, so I no longer had hours to spend on the elliptical.

So I figured out a new approach. I started incorporating HIIT (high intensity interval training) into my routines along with some resistance training. I began to see totally different results than I did from just doing cardio.

After that I started toying with my eating – I knew that I needed to start eating clean so that I could really see my body change from all of the hard work that I’d been putting in.

My life has had some ups & downs throughout my health & fitness journey, but I knew that I was committed to living a healthy lifestyle no matter what was going on in my life at the time. I was stubborn about staying fit and healthy, but I had to change my approach a few times to 1. keep up with my goals and 2. match my training routines with my life at the time.

So no matter what your goals are…just keep swimming (:

    Jess- I love this post! I’ve been following your blog for about 2 years and recently have gotten into a healthier lifestyle since my Dad was diagnosed with diabetes and I’ve been struggling with low blood sugar. I’ve been doing your Friday workouts and have taken some tips on eating clean from you. In the past month of trying to whip my lifestyle in shape I’ve noticed that there are so many temptations and people out there saying “it’s ok, just skip it today” or “It’s just wings and a pizza”. Nooo it’s an easy excuse to fall back into my old lifestyle. Being flexible within reason but not losing sight of my goals is something I will definitely be thinking about during the holidays! Thanks for this inspiration!

    This quote is probably the best description of how to manage a healthy lifestyle and to reach your goals! I think this quote is definitely going on my motivation wall!
